MAKE YOUR SPRAY TAN LAST EVEN LONGER

It’s no secret that everyone loves a beautiful, sun-kissed spray tan. Before you make your next spray tan appointment, make sure you follow this guide to ensure you have a long-lasting, beautiful spray tan!

PREP

A successful spray tan always begins with proper preparation. Exfoliation prior to your spray tan is crucial. Not only does it remove dead skin cells, it helps the spray tan penetrate your newest and freshest skin, offering long-lasting and even coverage.

Along with exfoliation, shaving and waxing should be done 24 hours beforehand. Hair removal can leave your pores open so you need to give them a little time to close. And if you wait until after your spray tan to shave or wax, your beautiful spray tan will leave with your hair as well.

Coming to your appointment with no lotions, perfumes, makeups, oils, and deodorants, is essential to a smooth and even tan. If you have products on your skin, the spray tan won’t go through all the way, leaving you with a patchy result. To combat this, make sure your skin is as bare as it can be.

As for clothing, wear loose fitted clothes and flip flops. Skinny jeans and anything tight and constricting to your skin can cause your spray tan to potentially rub off or get creases.

AFTERCARE

A proper aftercare routine is important to follow to ensure your longest lasting tan. Wait at least four to eight hours before showering. Keep in mind that the longer you wait, the darker your color will develop. Avoid any water contact or sweating in that time period.

When bathing, keep your shower time as minimal as you can and the water temperature lukewarm. Use a sulfate, paraben, and mineral oil free body wash with your hand (vs. a wash cloth or loofah) to avoid exfoliating your skin. Be sure to pat your skin dry with a towel and don’t rub.

And the final tip for your longest lasting spray tan? MOISTURIZE. Moisturizing with a sunless lotion specifically made for spray tans or another all-natural lotion, is the best way to keep your spray tan intact. Similar to shower products, you’ll want to find a lotion that is sulfate, paraben, and mineral oil free.

Using Eye Protection While Tanning

unnamedOne of the biggest mistakes that people make is not protecting their eyes when tanning in a tanning bed, or even outside for that matter. I have to admit, I am guilty of this myself. Before working for a professional tanning salon, I just thought closing my eyes was good enough. Then other times I would wear them for half the time of my session and keep them off for the other half of my session.
Now that I am older and a little wiser, I always wear eye protection in the tanning bed. Plus, there are numerous options to find something you’re comfortable with

Over exposure to UV light can cause great damage to your eyes if not protected, and believe it or not, just closing your eyes is not enough.

Here are six facts about using eye protection in a tanning bed that you must read.

1. Your eyes can get sunburnt! Tanning with no eye protection can cause red, itchy or watery eyes. These symptoms are all indications of short-term eye damage.
2. You can damage your eyes in just one tanning session! Even just one tanning session, without protecting your eyes can be enough exposure to cause you short-term eye damage.
3. Closing your eyes is not protecting them! Your eyelids naturally block less than 25% of UV rays from your eyes, and this will not protect you well enough.
4. Repeated exposure to UV light without eye protection can also cause long-term and even permanent eye problems.
5. Some damage caused to your eyes is irreversible! Long-term damage caused to your eyes include Diminished Color Perception (your sight will be dulled) and Reduced Night Vision. There is no cure for these.
6. Long-term exposure to UV light without eye protection seriously increases your probability of developing a cataract. This causes severe pain and even blindness. Surgery is the only cure for cataracts.
